STORAGE NETWORKING DESIGN & MANAGEMENT

Storage Networking Design and Management is the first of the two courses in the Storage Technologist track (EMCST) at the specialist level. This course builds on the technology concepts and principles learned in Information Storage & Management and challenges participants to apply their knowledge to real-world scenarios.

The course teaches a process oriented approach in designing, deploying and managing Storage Networking solutions. Lectures and work-shop style case studies provide a thorough exposure to Storage Networking requirements analysis, business value justification, and design considerations for technology and performance in the implementation and management of Storage Networking solutions.

Certification:

This course includes a practice test and has an associated Storage Technology Specialist exam.

What You'll Learn

  • Explain Application classes and their demands for storage; describe cost elements of a Storage Networking environment, and create business value justification for its implementation.

  • SAN and NAS topology, connectivity, security, configuration, and performance
  • Storage Networking design with hybrid (IP-SAN) technologies
  • Case studies detailing technology design considerations

3: Performance Stack Design Considerations

  • Design elements in the Application, Host and the Storage layer of the Performance Stack
  • Data gathering and profiling requirements at each layer of the Performance Stack for optimal design
  • Case study - Developing a Storage Networking design for a Email-exchange environment

4: Implementation

  • Developing design workbook and service implementation guide for Storage Networking deployment
  • Implementation gap analysis and developing work break down structures and risk mitigation plans
  • Testing, verification and validation

5: Management

  • Maturity model for Storage Management
  • Storage Management Operations - Process, Policies, Resources and Tools

Labs
